Overwhelmed by an abundance of raw data, U.S. intelligence agencies are placing their hopes on artificial intelligence (AI) to classify billions of terabytes of digital information and analyze world events.

At a recent intelligence and national security conference in Washington, U.S. intelligence officials, including military intelligence, announced they are seeking AI-based solutions to transform billions of terabytes of digital data daily into reliable intelligence for use in policy planning and battlefield action.

This information directly serves policymakers, the White House, and high-ranking military leaders. However, U.S. intelligence officials believe the challenge lies in increasing customer confidence in their intelligence products.

Dawn Meyerriecks, Deputy Director for Technology Development at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), said the CIA currently has 137 different AI projects, many of which are being developed with Silicon Valley developers.

The US intelligence agency isn't the only one pursuing AI development for future advantages. Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin also asserted that artificial intelligence is key to future power.

Currently, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is taking place in three main areas: biotechnology, digital technology, and physical technology. The core elements of digital technology in the Fourth Industrial Revolution will be: Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data. AI can be defined as a branch of computer science concerned with automating intelligent behaviors.

AI is the intelligence of machines created by humans that can think, reason, and learn like human intelligence. It can think and reason to solve problems, communicate by understanding language and speech, and learn and adapt itself.

AI can process data on a much larger scale, in a more systematic, scientific, and faster way than humans. Many technology corporations plan to create AI because of its significant value in solving many problems that humans currently cannot solve.
