The US is focused on maintaining a good relationship with the Philippines despite Duterte.
The U.S. administration aims to work closely with the Philippine government, disregarding criticism from President Rodrigo Duterte, as U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby said on November 2.

"Within the Philippine cabinet, there are many government agencies with which we have established long-standing relationships. And they still exist," said Kirby.
According to him, Duterte "is the leader of his country, and we respect that."
"We intend to maintain a good relationship with the government, as well as with him personally," Kirbi said.
On October 31, Reuters reported, citing an assistant to Senator Ben Cardin, that the U.S. State Department had suspended arms deals with the Philippine government. In response, President Duterte called those behind this decision "monkeys."
