The US 'lacks the political will' to negotiate with Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS news agency on February 10 that the US has not shown a willingness to negotiate with Russia and appears to lack the "political will" to do so.

Peskov made the statement when asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin's interview with conservative American journalist Tucker Carlson earlier this week helped convey Moscow's views on various issues to Washington. The Kremlin spokesman stated: "The American administration knows our position very well; they are fully aware of Putin's main points."

However, according to Peskov, the US has not yet shown a genuine willingness to engage in negotiations with Russia.

"This isn't a matter of knowing or not knowing, but of wanting or not wanting. Is there a desire to do something to enter the path of negotiations? We haven't seen such a desire or political will for this in the United States," Peskov emphasized.

However, according to Peskov, the interview with journalist Carlson provided a great opportunity for the Russian president to convey his views to a wider Western audience.

“It’s important to us that our president is heard. And if he’s heard, that means more people will think whether he’s right or not. At least they will think so,” he said when asked about the concerns the interview had sparked.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the interview had provoked an "overreaction" from the US authorities and mainstream media, who were quick to warn the public not to watch it.

According to RT, this two-hour exchange, which mainly revolved around the relationship between Moscow and Kyiv and the ongoing conflict, attracted over 100 million views in just one day on Carlson's X social media account.

The interview, published on February 8th, was the first interview between the Russian president and an American journalist since the conflict in Ukraine broke out in February 2022.
