(Baonghean.vn) - Only Russia possesses strategic hypersonic systems - that's the statement of Paul Freistler, a leading science and technology expert at the US military intelligence agency.

"There is another system, the SS-19 Mod 4 (Avangard), which achieved initial operational capability in 2018 and is the only strategic hypersonic system deployed in the world," Freistler announced at a congressional hearing.
According to this expert, Washington's adversaries "are developing capabilities that could keep the United States constantly under threat."
"Hypersonic missiles, designed to evade American sensors and defense systems, are the embodiment of the threat," Freistler concluded.
The first regiment, equipped with the Avangard hypersonic glide strategic missile system, was commissioned into the Yasnenskaya missile division of the Russian armed forces in 2019.
As previously announced within the Strategic Missile Forces, in 2023, the second regiment of Avangard hypersonic intercontinental ballistic missiles will assume combat duty.
