On January 13, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the US is preparing in detail for the second US-North Korea summit.
“We are working on the details” of the summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Secretary of State Pompeo said in a media interview.
The US Secretary of State's statement came amid growing hopes that the upcoming meeting between President Trump and leader Kim Jong-un will help break the current deadlock in negotiations to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
Details of the location and date of the second Trump-Kim summit are expected to be discussed at high-level talks between the US and North Korea.
According to plan, US Secretary of State Pompeo will have talks with North Korean officials after ending his trip to the Middle East.
Earlier, Japanese media reported that President Trump had proposed holding the second US-North Korea summit in Vietnam in February.
However, the North Korean leader has yet to respond to the proposal. In addition, sources also said that Thailand is likely to be chosen to host this meeting.
