The United States will use all means to end the power of President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela, the White House announced.
Earlier, President Donald Trump signed an executive order freezing Venezuelan government assets in US jurisdiction, adding the country's Central Bank and Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA to the list.
"As the Trump administration has made clear, all options are on the table. The United States will use all appropriate tools to end Maduro's rule in Venezuela, support the Venezuelan people's access to humanitarian aid, and ensure a democratic transition to government in Venezuela," the statement said.

New sanctions
The United States may impose sanctions against foreigners who support the Venezuelan government, President Nicolas Maduro said, according to John Bolton, the US President's national security adviser. According to him, by imposing new sanctions against Venezuela, the United States is sending a signal to "third parties that want to do business with the Maduro regime".

On January 23, National Assembly President Juan Guaido declared himself interim head of state for the duration of the government. The United States and several other countries have declared their recognition of Guaido. Russia supports Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
Britain, Germany, France and Spain have announced their intention to recognise Guaido as the country's interim president if new elections are not announced in Venezuela within eight days. So far, in addition to the US, Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Georgia, Albania and several other countries have also recognised Mr. Guaido as head of state.
