'America in conflict with itself'
(Baonghean.vn)- Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council - former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev warned that the confrontation between the Democratic and Republican parties in the US could lead to a full-scale civil war.
Speaking to RT and TASS over the weekend, Medvedev said there was a “big rift within the elite” in the US. “It is the conflict between conservative Republicans and liberals, represented by the Democratic Party, that has really divided America.”
“The United States is currently in a state of internal conflict. It is in conflict with itself,” Medvedev argued. “Moreover, in my opinion, this conflict is in some way irreconcilable. Such internal conflicts usually end in civil war.” He added: “I don’t know what will happen in the United States, but the level of conflict is high.”
Mr. Medvedev noted the ongoing criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination to run against incumbent President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election. Mr. Medvedev stated that the charges against Trump were brought “not for the sake of justice but to prevent Trump from participating in the election.”
Asked if there were similarities between the administrations of Barack Obama and Joe Biden in dealing with the conflict, Mr Medvedev said there was more “pragmatism” during the Obama years. He added that Biden was “more involved spiritually, politically and economically” in Ukraine, which “tied his hands”.
Mr. Medvedev emphasized: "Biden's determination to support Kiev against Russia has turned him into a 'hostage of Ukraine', which is very sad for both Ukraine and the United States"./.
