2017: Nghe An agriculture strives to achieve a growth rate of 4.5%

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of January 10, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to summarize the work of 2016 and deploy tasks for 2017. Comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the conference.

Agricultural production in 2016 took place in difficult conditions due to complicated weather conditions, with severe cold at the beginning of the year, prolonged cold spells, and record low temperatures (-3^oC, high mountain areas with ice and snow appear), mid-year widespread heat, heavy rain and flash floods at the end of the season cause great damage to production.

However, with the efforts of the whole industry and localities, the agricultural and rural development sector still achieved positive results. The productivity and output of many crops increased significantly, so the production value of the sector for the whole year reached 4.35/plan 4-4.5%; the number of communes meeting NTM standards reached 43/plan 30 communes; the economic structure within the sector continued to shift in a positive direction, in pure agriculture there continued to be a positive shift, the proportion of crop cultivation gradually decreased, the proportion of livestock and services increased significantly.

On behalf of the President, Comrade Dinh Viet Hong awarded the President's Third Class Labor Medal to individuals.

Production structure and crop seasons have been adjusted towards increasing added value, sustainability in the direction of restructuring the agricultural sector and adapting to climate change, productivity, quality, and economic efficiency of many crops have increased significantly. Forestry production has had a strong qualitative change, ensuring both the ecological environment and the economic livelihood of the people, sustainable and effective development. In particular, although aquaculture has faced many difficulties due to marine environmental incidents, its output has increased, offshore fishing capacity has developed, and aquaculture productivity has increased significantly.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the Agriculture and Rural Development sector; and noted: In 2017, the sector will face many difficulties due to the impacts of the world economy, agricultural product prices will be on a slight downward trend due to abundant supply and low consumer demand. The impact of climate change is also increasingly evident, with unusual developments in an extreme direction.

In such conditions, the sector needs to have appropriate solutions to complete the goal of restructuring the agricultural sector. Continue to strongly implement restructuring, build modern agriculture, high added value and efficiency; prioritize directing and mobilizing resources for rural development, focusing on implementing the national target program on building new rural areas, hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and social security. Strive for the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production to increase by 4 - 4.5% in 2017.
