Formation is a single from Beyoncé's sixth album, Lemonade, released on February 6, 2016.The R&B queen continues to showcase her exceptional dance skills inFormation. The visuals of the music video are highly symbolic, leaving a lasting and haunting impression.
The singer conveys a message about feminism, pride in Black culture, and a call to eliminate racial discrimination. The music video opens with Beyonce sitting in a New Orleans police car slowly sinking into floodwaters. This image evokes the pain of Hurricane Katrina sweeping through New Orleans – a land considered a cradle of multiculturalism. The moment the police car crashes into a figure implicitly condemns the numerous cases of American police killings of Black people. The image of them raising their hands in surrender to a Black boy represents the dream of equality. Beyonce's daughter, Blue Ivy, also appears in the music video with her signature curly hair.
