This May, coming to Kim Lien commune (Nam Dan district), the space and scenery here seem to be brighter. In the stream of pilgrims returning to Uncle Ho's hometown, each person carries special feelings. Coming to Kim Lien is not only to visit, but also to be closer to Uncle Ho and feel more deeply his thoughts, to remind ourselves to live so that "Loving Uncle Ho makes our hearts purer".

For the people of Kim Lien, the sacred pride of living, studying and working in Uncle Ho's homeland is crystallized into a sense of responsibility to build the homeland into a model as Uncle Ho wished during his lifetime. Ms. Hoang Thi Bich, a resident of Sen 2 hamlet, shared: "Not only actively donating land, contributing money, and working days to expand and build concrete roads, asphalt roads, flower roads, green trees, flag roads, etc., but also the awareness of maintaining hygiene and beautifying the rural landscape of Uncle Ho's homeland to be "bright, green, clean, beautiful" has become a conscious and voluntary action in every family, every citizen for the sake of Uncle Ho's homeland, for the pride of "being from Uncle Ho's homeland".

During his revolutionary life, despite being busy with national affairs, his homeland was always a place of great concern for President Ho Chi Minh. He always wanted Nam Lien commune (now Kim Lien commune) to become a model commune.

In a letter to the people and cadres of Nam Lien commune on February 13, 1962, Uncle Ho advised: “Conservative ideology is like a rope that ties people’s hands and feet, we must throw it away. To progress, we must have a bold spirit, dare to think, dare to do. In this as well as in all other matters, cadres, party members and union members volunteer to go first, then the people will follow.” Uncle Ho also often reminded the cadres and party members to uphold democracy, take the people as the root, “actively practice democracy with the people more”, and take great care of the people’s lives…

President Ho Chi Minh's concerns and wishes for his homeland are always considered by generations of cadres, party members and people of Kim Lien commune as his personal testament for his homeland, to persistently strive to realize what he wished for: to become a model commune.

Proof of this is the movement to build new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, model rural areas with 19 comprehensive criteria on socio-economy, national defense - security, building the political system,... Kim Lien commune is always the unit that reaches the finish line earliest in Nam Dan district and Nghe An province.

After being recognized as meeting the model new rural standards in 2023, the cadres, party members and people of Kim Lien continue to improve the quality of model criteria to ensure consistency and modernity, building an increasingly civilized and prosperous homeland.

The trade and service sector has developed towards serving tourists with a total of more than 120 accommodation establishments, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. In the commune, there are 23 OCOP products from 3 to 4 stars, both creating jobs and increasing income for people, while creating quality products to serve tourists.

What is special about Kim Lien commune is that cadres, party members and people always have a sense of responsibility, self-awareness and volunteerism to build their homeland worthy of being the homeland of President Ho Chi Minh in the hearts of domestic and international tourists.

The average income of Kim Lien people in 2024 will reach 68.5 million VND/person, an increase of 18.8 million VND/person compared to 2020. The system of schools, medical stations, cultural and sports facilities will be invested synchronously, meeting the requirements of sustainable development. Of the 5/5 schools that meet national standards, 4 schools will meet level 2 standards; the commune will meet national standards on health in phase 3...

During his two visits to his hometown and through letters sent back home, President Ho Chi Minh always gave his hometown encouragement, expressing his wish that his hometown would organize a patriotic emulation movement that was vibrant, widespread, practical, and persistent, making Nam Dan a model district. This is considered the “compass” of the Party Committee and people of Nam Dan district on the journey to develop their hometown.

On the basis of closely following the specific goals, targets and tasks of the project, Nam Dan district has organized many emulation movements and creative models to mobilize the participation of all cadres, party members and people; no agency, unit, organization or individual is left out; at the same time, ensuring the construction of a practical and sustainable new-style rural area.

Specifically, every year, the district organizes a contest to recognize, commend, and spread the model: "bright, green, clean, beautiful hamlets and blocks"; building "bright - green - clean - beautiful" headquarters, agencies and units; "green - clean - beautiful, safe, friendly" schools; building model roads, model residential areas, model farmer gardens, new rural standard gardens, etc.

Up to this point, Nam Dan district is the leading unit in the province in terms of the number of communes meeting advanced new rural standards with 15/18 communes; the number of communes meeting model new rural standards is 7 communes.; leading the province in the number of productsqualifiedOCOP with 81 products.

Nam Dan is the first district.Nghe An province is recognized as meeting advanced rural district standards in 2024.

Currently, the district has also completed 40/42 criteria for a model new rural district in the direction of cultural development associated with tourism, in Decision No. 17 of the Prime Minister.

The result of perseverance, effort and creativity in realizing Uncle Ho's wishes for his homeland is an extremely meaningful gift from the Party Committee and people of Nam Dan district to President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of his birth (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025). That is also the foundation and motivation for the communes of Nam Dan in general and Kim Lien commune in particular to continue to move forward, worthy of being the homeland of the great President Ho Chi Minh.
