Did Nam Em unfortunately miss out on the 3rd runner-up title at Miss Earth?

Recently, the Miss Earth fanpage unexpectedly announced that Corrin Stellakis from the United States had become the 3rd Runner-up (Miss Fire) of the Miss Earth 2016 competition. Previously, this position belonged to the beauty queen from Brazil, Bruna Zanardo.

Although no reason was given for the change, some user comments under the post suggest that Bruna Zanardo was dethroned because she registered to participate in another beauty pageant while still serving as the first runner-up of Miss Earth.

Besides the issues surrounding the reasons for this upheaval, the Miss Earth organizing committee's decision to appoint a replacement has also been the subject of much discussion.

According to a ranking published on the Missosology website, which is supposedly the judges' score for the contestants immediately after the competition ended, besides the top four positions equivalent to Miss, First Runner-up (Miss Air), Second Runner-up (Miss Water), and Third Runner-up (Miss Fire), Nam Em, the representative of Vietnam, ranked 5th and Corrin Stellakis of the USA ranked 6th.

Normally, according to the rules of beauty pageants, if a contestant is dethroned, the next highest-ranked contestant takes their place. Therefore, if that ranking is accurate, the 3rd runner-up position in last year's Miss Earth pageant should belong to the representative from Vietnam.

Responding to questions from concerned fans, the Miss Mekong Delta winner officially spoke out on her personal page. She reassured her fans not to be upset by this, stating that the organizers had made the decision, so whether it happened or not was irrelevant.

"Nam Em is still living and working to the best of her ability, and having her family by her side to comfort and encourage her is more than enough. So many unpleasant things have happened to me during these difficult times, so I've adapted to it and learned to accept it," she wrote on her personal page.

In addition, the 21-year-old beauty also sent her congratulations to runner-up Corrin Stellakis and said that she truly deserved the title.

This is not the first time Miss Earth has faced controversy over its questionable replacement appointments. A similar situation occurred in the 2010 competition when first runner-up Jennifer Pazmino from Ecuador was dethroned, and the organizers' decision to replace her with Viktoria Shchukina from Russia, who was among the top 14, caused considerable debate.
