Nam Kim (Nam Dan) creates momentum for sustainable new rural development.

(Baonghean) - Among the 18 communes in Nam Dan district that have achieved the new rural development goals, Nam Kim commune has a relatively high rate of internal resource contribution to the construction of new rural areas, accounting for over 70%. This result stems from the correct policies and decisions of the entire political system and the consensus of the people.

The distinguishing feature of implementing the National Target Program for New Rural Development in Nam Kim is the policy of planning specialized farming areas for economic development, focusing on the specialty lemon crop in the Thien Nhan hill region, high-quality rice in the plains, shallots, lilies, and chives in the hillside areas… aiming to increase people's income. To date, 64% of agricultural land has achieved an income of over 70 million VND/hectare/year.

From a poor commune, Nam Kim has made a breakthrough, achieving an average growth rate of 5.7% over the past five years, with an average per capita income of 33 million VND/year, and the number of poor households reduced to 90 (accounting for 3.88%). Economic development has facilitated the mobilization of contributions for the construction of new rural infrastructure projects. After more than five years, the entire commune has invested 241.4 billion VND to complete the new rural criteria, with the people contributing nearly 170 billion VND, accounting for 70% of the capital.

Particularly with the decisive involvement of cadres and Party members, always upholding the spirit of pioneering and exemplary leadership in various movements, persistently campaigning, and creating consensus and positive support from the entire population, not only did people contribute money, but they also voluntarily donated more than 10,000 square meters of land, 6,000 meters of fences, and nearly 20,000 man-days of labor to expand roads and build public welfare facilities.

The implementation process included several passive criteria that were difficult to fulfill in a commune with a relatively large area, but Nam Kim still did well, such as: rural road infrastructure, environment, social security and order, and the development of the political and cultural systems.

Accordingly, the spiritual life of the people has also improved significantly. To date, nearly 19 out of 21 km of roads have been paved, and 100% of rural roads have been paved. All 22 hamlets in Nam Kim have built spacious cultural centers with comprehensively invested cultural and sports facilities, and the health station achieved national standards in 2013. Thanks to the promotion of the "all people unite to build a cultured life in residential areas" movement, the commune has implemented a competition agreement among households to meet the criteria for building cultured families, resulting in an annual rate of over 85% of cultured families.

In 2016 alone, Nam Kim commune was recognized as a New Rural Cultural Commune. Besides focusing on economic and cultural development, Nam Kim has concentrated on building a strong political system, ensuring political stability and social order and security. The Nam Kim Commune Party Committee was recognized by the District Party Committee as a clean and strong Party Committee.

Evaluating the process of building new rural areas in his commune, Comrade Trinh Xuan Hung - Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Kim commune - said: "To achieve the results we have today, first and foremost is the unity and support of the Party Committee and the people in the commune. This is a fundamental factor in the implementation of the National Target Program for building new rural areas in the locality. The most important thing is relying on the strength of the people, coupled with valuing the implementation of democratic regulations and promoting the role of the people as masters, 'the people know, the people discuss, the people do, and the people inspect'."

In the coming period, Nam Kim commune will continue to focus on shifting the structure of crops and livestock, expanding business and service sectors to maintain and improve people's income, creating a foundation for building a sustainable new rural area and raising the standards of the new rural area criteria."

It can be said that, in the process of building communes to meet the standards of new rural areas, each commune has a different approach, but they all share one common spirit: high determination, unity, and solidarity of the entire community.

For Nam Kim, a flood-prone commune that suffers severe devastation from natural disasters every year, the effort to overcome difficulties is the decisive factor in achieving the New Rural Area (NRA) goal. This will be a great motivation, adding strength to the Party Committee and people of Nam Kim to confidently move forward in building a model New Rural Area in the next phase; contributing to accelerating the established roadmap for the district.
