On the afternoon of November 7th, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Binh Duong Provincial Police announced that suspect Nguyen Thanh Tinh (20 years old, residing in An Giang) had surrendered to the authorities for the crime of murder.

According to initial investigations: On the evening of November 3rd, Tinh and his group of friends went to play billiards at Thanh Truc billiards hall in Ong Dong hamlet, Tan Hiep commune, Tan Uyen town (Binh Duong province). There, Tinh's group had a conflict with Danh Ut's group (28 years old, residing in Kien Giang province) due to mutual dislike and "disrespectful stares." After being separated by nearby residents, both sides continued playing billiards. After finishing their game, both groups left.

However, upon reaching the billiard hall's parking lot, the two groups clashed, leading to a fight. During the brawl, Danh Ut was beaten to death by Tinh's group. After committing the crime, Tinh fled to his home in Tinh Bien district, An Giang province.
