The young man allegedly went to a corrugated iron shack in his girlfriend's family's cattle farm, doused himself with gasoline, and set himself on fire.

On June 4th, Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital admitted patient Dinh Tan Nhat (24 years old) in a critical condition with burns covering his entire body. "The patient suffered deep burns to 80% of his body and his condition is deteriorating," said a doctor from the Orthopedic and Burn Surgery Department.

Sitting dejectedly beside her son's hospital bed, the mother recounted that the previous afternoon, Nhat had driven to his girlfriend's family's cattle farm in Cam Ranh City, gone into a corrugated iron shack, locked the door, and committed suicide.

The girl's father, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Muoi (46 years old), discovered what was happening and, along with a young man, rushed over. They saw Nhat pouring gasoline on himself and setting himself on fire, burning like a torch. Mr. Muoi immediately broke down the door to rescue him but also suffered 4% burns - he is currently being treated at Cam Ranh Regional Hospital.

According to the mother, Nhật and Mr. Mười's son had been in love for many years. The two families had met and were discussing marriage arrangements for the two. "A few months ago, the girl's parents suddenly forbade their relationship. Since then, my son has been depressed and has shown many unusual behaviors," Nhật's mother shared.

Regarding this matter, the girl's family admitted that they had initially agreed to let their daughter date Nhat and were considering marriage, but later changed their minds. "We noticed strange behavior from our prospective son-in-law after he came to live with us for a while," the girl's mother said.

She said that for nearly four months, her family had prevented her daughter from seeing Nhat and demanded that she end the relationship. Since then, Nhat has repeatedly come to her family's home attempting suicide.

"Back in February, he tied a rope to a tree branch on the farm and tried to hang himself, but luckily people found him in time. The family doesn't approve of their daughter marrying someone like that," she said.

Cam Ranh City police are examining the scene and interviewing those involved to conduct an investigation.
