NEC Lavie BT53C launched: A competitor to Microsoft Surface, boasting a Panther Lake chip and a 500-nits display.
NEC has just launched the Lavie BT53C tablet in Japan, featuring an Intel Core Ultra 7 chip, 32GB of RAM, a 2K+ display with 500 nits of brightness, and optional 5G connectivity.
Following the launch of the Lavie BM94C laptop, NEC Personal Computers continues to introduce the Lavie BT53C to the Japanese market. This is a high-end 13-inch Windows tablet designed to compete directly with Microsoft's Surface product line.
Hardware power from the Intel Panther Lake platform
The most notable upgrade on the NEC Lavie BT53C lies in its internal configuration. The device is equipped with Intel's latest Panther Lake chip platform, allowing users to choose from processor options including the Intel Core Ultra 7 365, Core Ultra 5 335, or Core Ultra 5 332, performing well for everything from everyday office tasks to high-performance work.
In addition, the new processor integrates an NPU with AI processing performance reaching up to 49 TOPS. In terms of storage, the device offers 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, combined with a PCIe NVMe SSD with a maximum capacity of 512GB.

The NEC Lavie BT53C features a 13-inch IPS touchscreen display with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels. The screen brightness reaches 500 nits, ensuring clear visibility even in brightly lit environments.
The tablet features a 5MP front camera for video calls, while the rear boasts an 8MP camera. In terms of connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 7 and optional 5G. It is equipped with two Thunderbolt 4 ports for charging and outputting video to external displays. According to NEC PC, the battery provides up to 10.1 hours of continuous video playback on a single full charge.
Flexible design with keyboard and stylus accessories.
In terms of appearance, the Lavie BT53C measures 290 x 210 x 9.3 mm (approximately the size of an A4 sheet of paper) and weighs 866 g. It features a built-in kickstand on the back, making it easy to prop the device up on flat surfaces.
To seamlessly switch to laptop mode, the device uses a detachable keyboard that connects via a Pogo Pin connector. This keyboard also integrates a separate storage slot that automatically charges the included stylus.

The NEC Lavie BT53C tablet is expected to officially go on sale in Japan this September. The starting price for the device is set at 611,600 Yen (approximately $3,746).
