Nemyx coordinates swarm of UAVs to attack tanks: analysis

Auterion introduces Nemyx: an AI-powered swarm of UAVs that simultaneously attacked tanks in testing; it integrates Skynode S and operates even when GPS is jammed via AuterionOS.

Auterion announced the Nemyx system, which allows multiple drones to coordinate as a unified force, attacking targets simultaneously. According to the manufacturer, in testing, two tank prototypes were approached and attacked at the same time by a swarm of drones controlled by Nemyx. This platform integrates real-time artificial intelligence and computer vision, optimizing the detection, classification, and neutralization of targets at high speed.

System Overview

Nemyx is deployed as an application on AuterionOS, allowing any compatible drone to join the fleet via a simple software update. This architecture transforms individual platforms into a collective intelligent system, capable of scaling from small groups to large formations depending on mission requirements, according to Auterion.

The system is based on Auterion's operational experience, including the deployment of drones with the Skynode module in Ukraine. The manufacturer says Nemyx can be carried from a backpack or mounted on a truck, suitable for a variety of deployment scenarios.

Technical analysis

  • Swarm control: UAVs operate as a single coordinated unit, sharing data and performing tasks synchronously.
  • Real-time artificial intelligence: Combining AI and computer vision to detect, prioritize, and attack multiple targets.
  • Open platform compatibility: AuterionOS allows for rapid integration of compatible UAVs with just a software update.
  • Low-cost hardware: Skynode's minicomputer and flight controller are built on a low-cost platform, according to Auterion.

Skynode module and automation capabilities

Skynode provides fully autonomous flight and obstacle avoidance capabilities. Drones equipped with this module can autonomously guide themselves to a target selected by the operator. Auterion mentions the Skynode S module used in swarm configurations, supporting Nemyx's high-speed operation.

Countering electronic jamming and maintaining navigation.

The manufacturer emphasizes that computer vision technology allows the system to counteract and compensate for GPS loss caused by electronic warfare systems. This aims to maintain navigation and control in environments where GPS is jammed or obscured, a critical requirement for UAVs in modern battlefields.

Swarm deployment tactics

According to Auterion, Nemyx allows the military to deploy swarms of UAVs as a unified force, from individually carried drones to vehicle-mounted drones. In the company's described test, the simultaneous attack on two tanks illustrated how the swarm shares tasks, forms formations, and executes coordinated strikes to reduce exposure time and increase the probability of neutralizing the target.

Scaling up and integration

Auterion states that the system can scale from small groups to large formations depending on mission requirements and communication conditions. As an application on AuterionOS, Nemyx aims to accelerate integration across a wide range of UAV types.

Auterion announced it will supply Ukraine with 50,000 Skynode modules and is ready to integrate Nemyx into these modules. The company calls this a “breakthrough” in the field of unmanned systems, making large-scale operation of autonomous aircraft more feasible.
