Ancient features of Dien Lam

(Baonghean.vn) - Being a purely Thai commune in the mountainous district of Quy Chau, Dien Lam possesses a wild beauty that makes anyone who has visited it once remember it forever. Along with the charming scenery, the life of the people here still continues peacefully with many unique cultural features passed down through many generations.

Dien Lam has 586 Thai households with 2,500 people. People's lives mainly depend on agricultural production and forest cultivation. Because there is little flat land, people always take advantage of it to cultivate with the spirit of "not letting the land rest, not stopping our hands".

Now, people no longer burn forests to make fields, but have boldly reclaimed many areas of land for wet rice cultivation. Currently, the whole commune has more than 90 hectares of land for two-crop rice cultivation. In the photo is the wet rice cultivation area of ​​Mr. Quang Van Cuong. To bring water into the fields, he boldly invested more than 20 million VND to install a pipeline system from Cha Lao stream of Co Huong village. Currently, 90 households in the village have nearly 13 hectares of wet rice cultivation like this.

To have electricity, people also design their own "small hydroelectric plants" to serve their family's living and production needs.

The peaceful stilt houses have nurtured many generations of Dien Lam people to grow up and mature. Although life has changed a lot, the people here are still "faithful" in preserving the cultural features of their people, especially the stilt houses. Therefore, when going to any village in the commune, we can still easily encounter this familiar image.

In the house, the kitchen is considered the soul, the most important place. This is where family members connect after tiring working days, keeps the family fire burning and is also where the farmers' agricultural products are stored.

During the bamboo shoot season, people go into the forest to collect them for food. Bitter bamboo shoots are one of the specialties of the people here.

Tadpoles in the stream with bamboo shoots are considered a delicious dish to entertain guests, especially on rainy days.

Women with black teeth and radiant smiles were once the standard beauty of the Thai people. To them, it was a charming trait because "white skin and black teeth" were the typical attractive features of Thai girls in the past.

Along with the custom of tooth dyeing, the custom of betel chewing is also preserved by the older generation here.

Life has changed a lot, many generations of Dien Lam have been born and grown up, but no matter who they are or what they do, they still carry within them the character and unique identity of their people.
