Neymar rejected a world-record salary offer to stay at Barca.

Neymar's agent revealed that PSG had offered him a weekly salary of $865,000, but still failed to convince the Brazilian superstar to leave Barca.

"PSG wanted Neymar last summer. They were willing to pay him $45 million a year after tax. Manchester United also wanted him. However, Neymar decided to renew his contract with Barca, even though he received a lower salary, because he truly wanted to stay with the team," revealed Wagner Ribeiro, Neymar's agent.

After Ibrahimovic's contract expired and he moved to Manchester United, PSG needed a striker to replace him. The Qatari owners of the club were willing to spend $180 million in transfer fees to secure Neymar's signature. If he accepted the move to Parc des Princes, the Brazilian superstar would become the highest-paid player in world football history, earning $850,000 per week.

However, as Ribeiro revealed, Neymar rejected PSG's offer to extend his contract with Barca until 2021, with a release clause of over $225 million.

Neymar joined Barca in May 2013. The Brazilian striker has played 141 matches and scored 85 goals for the Nou Camp team.

Neymar is in top form. At the 2016 Olympics, he spearheaded Brazil's first-ever gold medal win in men's football. The striker, born in 1992, also recently scored against both Ecuador and Colombia in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in South America.
