Russia accuses the US of plotting a color revolution in Georgia.
According to TASS news agency on August 26, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated that the US is preparing to launch a color revolution to prevent the ruling Georgian Dream – Georgian Democracy party from winning the parliamentary elections in October.
Accordingly, the White House is "extremely dissatisfied with the situation in Georgia" ahead of the parliamentary elections on October 26 in that country. The SVR emphasized, "the Americans are preparing a color revolution in Georgia."
"At the Tbilisi 'maidan,' they plan to publicly present 'evidence of voter fraud,' declare that they do not recognize the election results, and demand a change of power. Law enforcement agencies will be provoked into suppressing the protests with force," the Russian intelligence agency said.
Meanwhile, according to the same source, Americans are exploring options for a "ruthless" political and economic response to the administration's "excessive" use of force against "peace-loving citizens."
The SVR news agency emphasized that, in preparation for the color revolution, "Georgian pro-Western NGOs are recruiting a large number of people to closely monitor the voting process."
"They are tasked with identifying and documenting 'imminent events' regarding the government's use of administrative resources even when they don't exist. Washington is providing additional funding to local opposition youth associations, which are expected to become the 'driving force' of post-election protests," the SVR added.
Russian intelligence also pointed out that "Georgian opposition forces controlled by Washington remain divided despite US efforts, and the alliances they have formed remain very fragile."
"In this context, the ruling Georgian Dream party could gain public support. Therefore, the US is concerned that politicians will be 'unleashed' to continue their sovereign agenda, refusing to comply with Western demands, which are directly contrary to Georgia's national interests," the SVR press office stated.
According to the intelligence agency, "The White House considers such a scenario unacceptable." "The Americans intend to escalate tensions against the Georgian government on a large scale in the remaining weeks before the election to weaken the electoral position of the Georgian Dream as much as possible. They plan to use a 'tested and proven tool': individual sanctions against senior party leaders, their family members, and patrons of the party," the SVR stated.
