Russia has the lowest unemployment rate among the G20 group.
Among the G20 countries, Russia has the lowest unemployment rate. This figure has also decreased significantly in India and Brazil.
According to RIA Novosti on September 15, an analysis based on statistical data from various countries shows that Russia will have the lowest unemployment rate among the 20 largest economies (G20) by the end of the second quarter of 2025, while Mexico will see the sharpest increase.
Unemployment in Russia hit a record low of 2.2% in June, down 0.1 percentage points from March. This is the lowest among all the world's largest economies.
Unemployment in Japan edged up to 2.5%, remaining at that level for the second consecutive quarter. In South Korea, the rate has fallen over the past three months to 2.6% from 2.9% in March. Meanwhile, Mexico's unemployment rate rose by 0.5 percentage points, the highest among all G20 countries over the past three months, reaching 2.7%.
The only country to have a double-digit unemployment rate in the second quarter was South Africa. The economy there continues to face a bleak situation, and for the second consecutive quarter, South Africa's unemployment rate continued to rise, reaching 33.2% in June, up from 32.9% in March.
Besides Mexico and South Africa, Turkey saw the sharpest increase in unemployment in the second quarter, rising 0.4 percentage points to 8.4%.
Meanwhile, the index fell significantly in India, down 2.3 percentage points, and in Brazil, down 1.2 percentage points.
Earlier in August, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized at a meeting on economic issues that the country's unemployment rate was at a record low. Annual inflation in Russia as of the end of July was 8.8%.
