Has Russia killed IS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi?
Russia is verifying reports that ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi was killed in the southern Raqqa region of Syria in late May.
SputnikAccording to a report from the Russian Ministry of Defense on June 16, a Russian air strike conducted on May 28 south of Raqqa may have killed Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, the leader of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS). Verification is underway.

According to this source, Baghdadi may have been killed along with other senior IS leaders and around 330 terrorists.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the attack to destroy the IS "Military Council" south of their stronghold in Raqqa, northern Syria, carried out by the Russian Air Force on May 28, involved Su-34 and Su-35 fighter jets.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said: “According to information verified through various channels, IS leader Ibrahim Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in the airstrike because he was also present at the meeting.”
