The Global Firepower Ranking uses more than 60 distinct factors to determine a given nation's military PowerIndex, ranging from unit size and financial status to logistical and geographical capabilities.
A total of 145 national armies were reviewed and evaluated.
The US military ranks first with a combat effectiveness index of 0.0699. Russia is in second place with an index of 0.0702. In third place is China with 0.0706. Beyond the top three, the remaining positions in the top 10 are occupied by India, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Japan, Turkey, Pakistan, and Italy, which finishes in tenth place.
In late October 2023, the American magazine US News & World Report recognized the Russian military as the strongest in the world. According to this ranking, the US ranked second, China third, Israel fourth, and South Korea fifth.
