The future of dialogue between Moscow and Brussels remains uncertain. Russian diplomatic officials assert that any normalization process now depends entirely on the willingness of European leaders to change.

According to the TASS news agency. On May 26, in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper, Vladislav Maslennikov, Head of the European Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided several noteworthy details regarding the current stalemate in relations between Russia and the EU.

The Russian diplomat clearly stated the prospect of bilateral contact. The possibility of re-establishing communication channels depends directly on Brussels. Specifically, European leaders need to demonstrate a genuine willingness to adjust their foreign policy. They must reconsider the anti-Russian policies currently being pursued.

At the same time, Europe must give due respect to Moscow's legitimate interests. This is a prerequisite for opening up substantive exchanges.

Maslennikov specifically emphasized that Moscow has not turned its back on diplomacy. On the contrary, it has never refused dialogue with Europe. Russia has always been steadfast in its position of peaceful resolution. They advocate "resolving all existing disagreements with their Western neighbors through diplomatic means."

Although Moscow has left open the possibility of negotiations, the reality from the European side paints a different picture.

The head of the European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed considerable skepticism about the goodwill of his counterparts. He assessed that, at the present time, it is difficult to confirm the attitude of the West. Brussels does not seem truly ready to resume any substantive negotiations with his country.

Any moves from the European side at this time remain very limited. Mr. Maslennikov points out that the current situation is merely speculation. The European Union is still grappling with the selection of a candidate. They don't yet know exactly who will represent the bloc in the negotiations.

However, the problem isn't just about personnel. In fact, European officials haven't yet agreed on the content of the discussions. They haven't determined what topics they will negotiate with Moscow.

"And whether they can reach an agreement remains a big question mark," concluded the head of Russia's European Affairs Department, indicating that the path to normalizing bilateral relations will still face many challenges.
