"Russia gains nothing from hacking emails like that," Peskov commented on the US accusations.

"Any accusation, whether direct or indirect, suggesting Russian involvement in the attack is completely absurd and a vivid example of using the 'Russia card' for electoral purposes in the US. This is utterly stupid," Peskov said.

Peskov also said that Americans must deal with the problems related to hacking and its consequences themselves.

"This is not a problem for Russia, and we don't need to worry about it," Peskov concluded.

Previously, Clinton's campaign managers stated that Russian hackers may have been responsible for the intrusion into the US Democratic National Committee (DNC) computer network in early 2016 and the leaking of emails from top DNC officials, including Clinton, onto WikiLeaks.

They also alleged that Russian hackers leaked sensitive emails from Bernie Sanders, who dropped out of the Democratic presidential race, to help Republican candidate Donald Trump win the upcoming US presidential election in November 2016.
