Russia calls the Burevestnik missile an 'absolute' breakthrough in defense.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Burevestnik nuclear missile is an absolute breakthrough in the field of technology and defense.
According to RIA Novosti on November 1st, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the "Burevestnik" missile represents an absolute breakthrough in Russia's defense and technology sector.
"This is an absolute breakthrough in both technology and defense," said the press secretary of the Russian President.
Earlier, President Putin said that tests of the "Burevestnik" cruise missile with unlimited range, equipped with "a miniature nuclear power plant," had been completed.
Putin also noted that the technologies of "Burevestnik" could be used in the national economy, to power the Arctic, and in Russia's lunar program.
Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to the President that the nuclear-powered cruise missile "Burevestnik" has demonstrated a high capability to overcome missile defense and air defense systems. General Gerasimov noted that the cruise missile completed a test flight of 14,000 km, and this is not the final limit.
Responding to Moscow's move, US President Donald Trump said he had ordered nuclear weapons tests "on an equal footing" with other nations deemed to have suitable programs. Tom Cotton, head of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, subsequently suggested that President Trump's announced nuclear tests implied small, controlled underground explosions.
Former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter commented that US President Donald Trump was confused by the Russian leader's statements about the "Poseidon" and "Burevestnik" tests.
Furthermore, Scott Ritter points out that the American leader ordered the War Department to continue nuclear testing, while the US nuclear arsenal is under the responsibility of the Department of Energy.
