Russia calls Burevestnik missile an 'absolute' breakthrough in defense
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Burevestnik nuclear missile is an absolute breakthrough in the field of technology and defense.
According to RIA Novosti on November 1, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the "Burevestnik" missile is an absolute breakthrough in Russia's technology and defense sector.
"This is an absolute breakthrough in both technology and defense," said the Russian President's press secretary.
Earlier, President Putin said that the tests of the unlimited-range cruise missile "Burevestnik" equipped with "a miniature nuclear power plant" had been completed.
Mr. Putin also noted that "Burevestnik" technologies can be used in the national economy, to supply energy to the Arctic and in Russia's lunar program.
Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to the President that the cruise missile with the nuclear engine "Burevestnik" has demonstrated a high ability to overcome missile defense and air defense means. General Gerasimov noted that the cruise missile has already made a test flight of 14,000 km, and this is not the final limit.
Responding to Moscow's move, US President Donald Trump said he had ordered nuclear weapons testing "on an equal basis" with other countries believed to have suitable programs. Tom Cotton, head of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, later said that President Trump's announced nuclear tests implied small, controlled underground explosions.
Former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter commented that US President Donald Trump was confused by the Russian leader's statements about the "Poseidon" and "Burevestnik" tests.
Additionally, Scott Ritter points out that the US leader ordered the War Department to continue nuclear testing, while the US nuclear arsenal is managed by the Department of Energy.
