Russia promises not to attack NATO.

Russia will never attack any NATO country; that is understandable to all responsible politicians. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"There are no such plans in place here. I think everyone in NATO knows this, but they are simply using it as a pretext to deploy more technical equipment and battalions, as if to ensure that, as before, the US will continue to keep a close eye on the entire area," the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry remarked.

Lavrov emphasized that Moscow considers the fundamental threat to be "the further eastward expansion of NATO."

"We consider the threat not to be the very existence of NATO, but to the way the military alliance acts in practice," Sergei Lavrov announced.

According to the Russian minister, "serious analysts believe that the Alliance is now trying to seize upon the pretext provided by the coup in Ukraine to devise a new justification for NATO's existence."
