The Russian Navy has officially announced the equipment of the Project 23560 Lider super destroyer and the completion date of its design.

According to Southfront, citing Russian military sources, preliminary design work has now been completed, and the Krylov State Research Center is primarily responsible for the detailed design of the Project 23560 super battleship.

Reportedly, the Design Bureau of the former Krylov Center had previously proposed two options for the Lider-class frigate. One was to use conventional turbine engines and have a displacement of 10,000-12,000 tons; the other was to use a nuclear reactor for the engines and increase the displacement to 19,000 tons.

After considering the strengths and weaknesses of the two options, the Russian Ministry of Defense ultimately chose the second configuration for the Lider class – using nuclear-powered propulsion. With this choice, the Lider super-warship can operate for its entire lifespan without needing to refuel.

Although a choice has been made, the detailed design of the Lider-class destroyer will only be completed in 2021, and construction will begin as soon as the Russian Ministry of Defense agrees to any final changes (if any).

According to initial information, the Lider destroyer is approximately 230 meters long and equipped with hundreds of Russia's most modern missiles, such as the Calibr and Onyx anti-ship cruise missiles, the new generation S-500 air defense missiles, the Zircon hypersonic missiles, and the Paket-NK multi-purpose torpedoes...

While most of the ship's electronic equipment remains undisclosed, the Russian Navy claims that the warship is also equipped with a Grach optical-visual interference station capable of blinding enemy warships and electro-optical equipment, such as night vision goggles, binoculars, and various laser devices.

With a displacement of 19,000 tons alone, the Lider-class can be called a heavy nuclear-powered cruiser. Furthermore, this new class of destroyer will undoubtedly be equipped with the most advanced technology available today, including cutting-edge stealth technology.

The Russian Ministry of Defense revealed that initially, only two ships will be commissioned from the United Shipbuilding Corporation. Once officially commissioned, the Lider will replace a number of older warships currently in service with the Russian Navy, such as Sovremennyy-class destroyers, Slava-class cruisers, Udaloy-class destroyers, and Kirov-class nuclear cruisers.
