The Russian Navy has just officially announced the equipment of the super destroyer Lider of Project 23560 and the completion date of this warship's design.

Southfront quoted Russian military sources as saying that the preliminary design work has been completed and the Krylov State Research Center is the main unit responsible for the detailed design of the Project 23560 super warship.

It is known that the Krylov Design Center previously proposed two options for the Lider destroyer. One is that the ship will use a conventional turbine engine and have a displacement of 10,000-12,000 tons; the other is that the ship will use a nuclear reactor for the engine and the displacement will increase to 19,000 tons.

After considering the strengths and weaknesses of the two options, the Russian Ministry of Defense finally chose the second configuration for the Lider class - using nuclear-powered engines. With this option, the Lider super-warship can run its entire life cycle without needing to refuel.

Although the choice has been made, the detailed design of the Lider-class destroyer will only be completed in 2021 and construction work will begin immediately after the Russian Defense Ministry agrees on final changes (if any).

According to initial information revealed, the Lider destroyer is about 230m long, equipped with hundreds of Russia's most modern missiles such as Calibr and Onyx anti-ship cruise missiles, new generation S-500 air defense missiles, Zircon hypersonic missiles or Paket-NK multi-purpose torpedoes...

While most of the ship's electronic equipment is not disclosed, the Russian Navy claims that the warship is also equipped with a Grach optical-visual interference station that can blind enemy warships and optical-electronic equipment, such as night vision goggles, binoculars and various laser devices.

With a displacement of 19,000 tons alone, the Lider class can be called a heavy nuclear cruiser. In addition, this new class of destroyers will certainly be equipped with the most modern technology available today, including advanced stealth technology.

The Russian Ministry of Defense revealed that initially, it will only order the country's United Shipbuilding Corporation to build two ships first. When officially equipped, Lider will replace a series of old warships in the Russian Navy's service such as Sovremennyy-class destroyers, Slava-class cruisers, Udaloy-class destroyers, or Kirov-class nuclear cruisers.
