(Baonghean.vn) - Russia hopes that the US-Taliban negotiations have only stalled and are not "dead" as US President Donald Trump has described them, said Zamir Kabulov, Director of the Asia 2 Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"We regret that the negotiations have stalled. We still believe that the talks will only be temporarily suspended, not concluded. Emotions have run high, the last straw has been broken, but we believe that at some point both sides will return and resume negotiations to finalize the agreement," said Kabulov, the Russian President's Special Envoy for Afghanistan.

Moscow saw the potential of the agreement, viewing it as "an important step that could pave the way for reconciliation and help stabilize the crisis in Afghanistan," Kabulov asserted.

After secret talks at David between the US President and Taliban leaders were canceled just before the deadline, Trump declared that peace talks with the Taliban were "dead."

Earlier, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the explosion in the Kabul area, which killed two NATO officials, one from the United States and the other from Romania.
