Russia says Ukraine begins attack on Kursk Nuclear Power Plant
Russia's Foreign Ministry says Ukraine has begun preparations to attack the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant.

According to RIA Novosti, the official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that Ukraine has begun preparing for an attack on the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant.
“We call on international organizations, in particular the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to immediately condemn the provocations prepared by the Kiev authorities and prevent violations of the physical and nuclear safety of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant,” spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
The Russian diplomat stressed that the actions of the Kiev government could lead to a large-scale man-made disaster in Europe.
Such steps by Ukraine “not only pose a direct threat to nuclear plants, but also undermine the IAEA’s nuclear safety and security regulations set by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in 2022,” Zakharova pointed out.
According to Ms. Zakharova, the entire world community must understand the danger that the Ukrainian authorities pose to Europe. She stressed that attempts at intimidation and terrorism against the entire region and the international community must be decisively stopped through joint efforts.
On August 16, a representative of the Russian law enforcement agency told RIA Novosti that the Ukrainian military was planning to attack the Kursk and Zaporozhye nuclear power plants. Accordingly, Ukraine would use warheads containing radioactive substances that had been delivered to the city of Zheltye Vody, Dnepropetrovsk region.
