Russia thwarts car bomb plot in Crimea.
(Baonghean.vn) - RT news agency, citing RIA Novosti, reported that a source told the news agency that an improvised explosive device had been discovered. This device was made from parts supplied to Ukraine by NATO countries.
Specifically, a security source told RIA Novosti that a vehicle rigged with explosives attempted to enter Crimea, but was intercepted by agents of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). The source added that the bomb was subsequently neutralized.
The news agency reported on March 2nd that the incident occurred at the Dzhankoy border crossing on the administrative border between Crimea and Russia's Kherson region, in the northern part of the peninsula.
According to a source, during a search of a vehicle driven by a law enforcement officer from the Kherson region, FSB officers discovered "an object resembling an explosive device attached to the floor of the vehicle, beneath the driver's seat."
The source added that the vehicle was quickly moved to a safe location and special forces successfully neutralized the bomb.
According to RIA Novosti, experts have determined that the improvised explosive device "was assembled from parts manufactured abroad, supplied to Ukraine by NATO countries."
The source said that an investigation has been launched and security agencies are working to identify those involved in the plot.
