The new energy weapon system developed by Inferit is capable of destroying UAVs with heat at a distance of 1km, effective even against targets immune to electronic warfare.

Russia has officially unveiled a new generation laser system for combating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), marking a significant step forward in the application of directed energy weapons in combat. Developed by the security division of Inferit, the system is designed to detect, track, and destroy low-flying targets with extremely high precision.

Impressive detection capabilities and specifications.

Russia's new defense system is capable of detecting UAVs at distances up to 3km. Beyond detection, the system can accurately measure the target's speed, coordinates, and range in real time. After identifying the target, the system uses a high-intensity laser to blind optical sensors or directly destroy the UAV's structure with thermal energy.

Technically, the system boasts some notable specifications:

  • Power:The current laser module has a power output of 3kW, with plans to upgrade it to 12kW in the near future.
  • Effective range:Eliminate targets within a 1km radius.
  • Accuracy:Achieved over 90% success rate for helicopter-type UAVs.
  • Operational duration:It operates continuously for a maximum of 100 seconds, with each actual attack lasting only 5-6 seconds.

Integrating AI and a multi-layered sensor system.

The core element that sets this system apart is its complete AI-powered control. AI analyzes data from a dense network of sensors, including primary target acquisition radar, lidar, laser rangefinders, thermal cameras, and dedicated video surveillance modules. This combination of multiple sensors allows the system to maintain operational capability in a wide range of environmental conditions.

In particular, the developers claim that this system is exceptionally effective against both fully autonomous UAVs and fiber optic-guided UAVs. These are targets that are typically considered "immune" to traditional electronic warfare (EW) systems because they do not rely on radio waves for control.

Strategy for protecting critical infrastructure

The Russian military is working to extensively integrate laser-based systems into its national air defense network. In June 2025, the Russian Ministry of Defense conducted large-scale testing of eight different laser systems developed by the state-owned corporations Rostec and Rosatom. The test results confirmed the effectiveness and reliability of this weapon system.

The system has now been certified for deployment to protect critical infrastructure. Compared to traditional anti-aircraft missiles, laser weapons offer several tactical advantages: lightning-fast reaction speed, absolute accuracy, extremely low cost per shot, and elimination of reliance on complex ammunition supply chains. This is considered the most economical and effective solution to counter future "swarm" UAV tactics.
