Ria Novosti, citing the Express (UK), reported that Russian drone attacks on strategic Ukrainian targets near the border with Romania – a NATO member state – have caused panic.

According to Express, crucial Ukrainian infrastructure at the ports of Reni and Izmail has been attacked. These are two key export ports for Kyiv on the banks of the Danube River, bordering Romania.

The Danube River has become Ukraine's main grain export route since Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative in July. Ukrainian grain is transported by barge from the ports of Reni and Izmail in the Odessa province to the Romanian port of Constanta, and then onward to other destinations.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko, citing a border guard report, said a Russian drone allegedly crashed and exploded in Romania. In response, the Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that Russian weapons had never posed a “direct military threat to the territory or territorial waters” of the country.

In recent days, Ukraine has accused Russia of using drones to attack grain warehouses at the port of Izmail, destroying goods, as well as a production and transit complex in the Danube region. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims the targeted locations were residences for foreign mercenaries and Ukrainian weapons depots.
