Russia doubles its gas exports to China.
Russia will double its gas exports to China by 2035.

According to RIA Novosti on November 12, the International Energy Agency (IEA), in its annual World Energy Outlook 2025 report, predicts that Russia will double its gas exports to China from 40 billion cubic meters in 2024 to 80 billion cubic meters in 2035.
"Russia will double its gas exports to China from 40 billion cubic meters in 2024 to 80 billion cubic meters in 2035. The Power of Siberia 1 pipeline is currently operating at full capacity, and the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline, with a projected capacity of 50 billion cubic meters, is expected to begin increasing supply from the mid-2030s," the IEA report stated.
However, experts from this international agency did not specify when Power of Siberia 2 could be built and become operational.
Following talks between Russia and China in Beijing in early September 2025, Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed four documents, including a strategic cooperation agreement expanding the areas of collaboration between the two companies.
Gazprom's Chairman of the Board, Alexei Miller, announced the signing of a legally binding memorandum of understanding concerning the construction of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline and the Soyuz Vostok transit pipeline through Mongolia. The parties also agreed to increase gas supplies via the Power of Siberia pipeline from 38 to 44 billion cubic meters per year, and via the Far East route from 10 to 12 billion cubic meters per year.
Russian gas is currently being supplied to China via the "Power of Siberia" pipeline. Deliveries began in late 2019. Daily gas deliveries via "Power of Siberia" were increased to their contracted maximum on December 1, 2024. The Far East pipeline involves the construction of a branch from the domestic Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas pipeline to China. A long-term gas sales agreement for this pipeline was signed in February 2022. Gas is scheduled to begin transit through the Far East pipeline in January 2027.
