Russian missile forces, using the Iskander-M system, accurately struck Voznesensk airfield in Mykolaiv, destroying two Ukrainian Su-24M attack aircraft and one F-16 fighter jet.

Russian armed forces have just carried out a precision-guided missile attack on Voznesensk airfield in the Mykolaiv region. According to Russian media reports, the attack successfully destroyed two Su-24M Fencer frontline bombers and one F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet belonging to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Details of the Iskander-M airstrike.

The attack was carried out by three Iskander-M tactical ballistic missiles (OTRKs). This type of weapon is frequently used by the Russian military for precision strikes against high-value targets such as air bases, air defense systems, ship staging areas, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Russian analysts note that, immediately after the initial ballistic missile explosions, several secondary explosions occurred in quick succession at the air base. This suggests that the missiles may have struck ammunition or fuel depots at the Voznesensk airfield.

The strategic importance of the objective

Russian media indicated that airfields in the Mykolaiv region were used by Ukrainian forces throughout the operation as an important rear base. In particular, this was the location of Su-24M frontline bombers – modified aircraft designed to carry British Storm Shadow and French SCALP cruise missiles.

Notably, these Su-24M aircraft are believed to have carried out a cruise missile attack on the Kremniy El electronics plant in Bryansk, a Russian missile component manufacturing facility, on the night of March 10th to 11th. Destroying these aircraft is seen as a direct retaliatory measure to limit the enemy's long-range strike capabilities.

The issue of transferring F-16 fighter jets.

Besides Soviet-era aircraft, the presence of US-made F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters at this airfield was also a priority target. Sources revealed that the destroyed F-16 had recently been transferred from Poland to Voznesensk.

This information indicates that Russian intelligence closely monitored the transfer of military equipment from the borders of European allies into the Mykolaiv region. Immediately after identifying the aircraft's landing location, target data was transmitted to the Iskander-M operating unit for a swift strike to destroy it.
