Russia tests new generation RPK-16 handgun.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has received the first batch of the new generation RPK-16 light machine guns from the Kalashnikov Concern and is preparing to put them into trial use.

The RPK-16 is a modernized version of the RPK-74 with groundbreaking features that can replace most older fire support weapons. The RPK-16 has a total length of 1,076 mm (length with stock folded 831 mm, barrel length 370-500 mm), and weighs 4 kg (excluding ammunition).

One of the advantages of this weapon is its mobile magazine. In the event of an outer perimeter breach, the ability to easily change barrels allows the RPK-16 to quickly convert into an assault rifle, meeting the requirements of close-quarters combat.

Furthermore, the RPK-16 uses 5.45×39 mm ammunition and several other types of ammunition such as 7N6, 7N10, 7T3, and 7T3M. The magazine holds up to 96 rounds, thus saving time on reloading. The maximum rate of fire is 700 rounds per minute.
