Russia tests new generation RPK-16 handgun

The Russian Ministry of Defense has received the first batch of new-generation RPK-16 light machine guns from the Kalashnikov Concern and is preparing to put them into trial use.

RPK-16 is a modernized version of RPK-74 with breakthrough features, can replace most old fire support weapons. RPK-16 has a total length of 1,076 mm (length when folded with stock 831 mm, barrel length 370-500 mm), weighs 4 kg (excluding ammunition).

One of the advantages of this gun is its mobile magazine. In case of a breakthrough, the ability to easily change barrels allows the RPK-16 to quickly convert to an assault rifle, meeting the requirements of close combat.

In addition, the RPK-16 uses 5.45×39 mm ammunition and some types of ammunition such as 7N6, 7N10, 7T3 and 7T3M. The magazine can hold up to 96 rounds, thus saving time on reloading. The maximum rate of fire is 700 rounds/minute.
