Russia unveils Tor short-range anti-missile system.
Russia has just showcased its new firepower by releasing a video showing a Tor-M2 air defense missile system mounted on a tracked vehicle, capable of shooting down US and NATO missiles.
A clip released by the Russian Ministry of Defense on January 9, 2017, on Army Air Defense Day, shows soldiers in all-white uniforms launching missiles from the Tor-M2 short-range air defense missile system, a system designed to protect buildings from enemy missile attacks.
However, the Tor can also shoot down anti-tank missiles, and Russia even claims it can intercept the American Paveway laser-guided bunker-busting bomb.
Russia claims that the Tor-M2 missile system (capable of shooting down incoming missiles at a range of 7-10 km), currently deployed in Belarus, not far from the Polish border, has an accuracy rate of 80%, according to the Daily Star on January 17.
The Tor-M2 is a successor to the Soviet-era missile system of the same name, developed in 1975 to shoot down NATO cruise missiles.
Moscow has exported some older Tor missiles to Iran, Egypt, Venezuela, and even Greece, a NATO member.
