Russia and the United States will soon meet and discuss resuming inspections under the New START nuclear arms reduction treaty that have been suspended since before the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a US State Department spokesman said on November 8.

Speaking at a daily press briefing, Mr Price said the Bilateral Consultative Commission (BCC), the mechanism for implementing the last remaining arms control agreement between the world's two largest nuclear powers, would meet "in the near future".

In August, Russia suspended cooperation with treaty inspections, blaming travel restrictions imposed on Moscow officials by Washington and its allies. But Russia stressed it remained committed to the treaty’s provisions.

“We have made it clear to the Russians that the [travel restrictions] imposed after Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine do not prevent Russian inspectors from conducting New START inspections in the United States. So we hope that the BCC meeting will allow us to continue with those inspections,” Mr. Price said./.
