Bolero music remains popular to this day. Therefore, the number of female singers pursuing this genre is increasing, creating a lively competition not only in vocal ability but also in beauty.
When discussing bolero music after 1975, one cannot overlook its representative, Nhu Quynh. The singer of "Vung La Me Bay" (The Area Where the Tamarind Leaves Fly) was affectionately nicknamed "Bolero Queen" by audiences and colleagues alike. Nhu Quynh's beauty is distinctly East Asian, gentle and demure. Composer Truc Ho, one of the people who helped Nhu Quynh's name rise to prominence overseas, once praised her, saying: "Nhu Quynh is very beautiful, reminiscent of the beauty of the late artist Thanh Nga."
Singer Quang Lê has also showered Như Quỳnh with praise for her beauty and voice. He even coined the nickname "Bolero Queen" for Như Quỳnh during the 2018 "Bolero Idol" game show, when Quang Lê and Như Quỳnh were both judges.
Director Hoang Nhat Nam, in the game show "Idol Singer Season 4" (THVL), when commenting on contestant Kim Yen, who impersonated Nhu Quynh, highly praised the beauty and charisma of the "queen of singing and dancing." Jang Mi is a familiar name to young people who love bolero music. Her real name is Bui Thao Trang, born in 1996, and she rose to fame from a cover video of "Duyen Phan" on YouTube. Jang Mi's voice isn't particularly unique, but her style, genuine personality, and delicate, gentle beauty with a Korean flair have won over young people.
