(Baonghean.vn) - Through practical actions, the Farmers' Association of Quynh Tan commune, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An province) has established a "Cattle Bank," encouraging members and farmers to save on expenses to help poor households.

Launched in 2013, the "Cattle Bank" of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Tan commune, Quynh Luu district, has not only attracted farmers and association members but has also received support from commune officials, civil servants, and businesses in the area. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thao and her husband, residing in Hamlet 4, Quynh Tan Commune, are classified as a poor household. Both suffer from illnesses and frequent ailments, and their family's economy relies primarily on two plots of leased farmland, making their lives extremely difficult. Understanding their plight, in August 2014, the Farmers' Association of the commune helped them borrow breeding cows to improve their lives. In early 2015, the cow gave birth to one calf, and now it has given birth to a second calf. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thao excitedly shared: "In just two years, my family has two calves and a mother cow. Now we will sell one calf to repay the Farmers' Association so we have capital to continue helping other poor households."

For Ms. Ho Thi Hoan in Hamlet 7, Quynh Tan Commune, her husband passed away early, leaving her to raise three young children alone, a constant struggle against poverty. In August 2014, she received a loan of a breeding cow from the commune's Farmers' Association and guidance on cow care, which motivated her to overcome hardship. Currently, her cow has given birth to a male calf. Ms. Ho Thi Hoan shared: "The cow not only has material value but also helped me regain my spirits. Raising cows isn't too difficult or expensive, and my children can help me cut grass for the cows. Now, our family has escaped poverty."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Tan commune, said that the idea of buying breeding cows to donate to poor households was initiated by the District and Commune Farmers' Associations in 2013. That year, in addition to one calf donated by the District Association, the Commune Farmers' Association also mobilized officials and members to save more than 10 million VND to buy another calf to donate to a poor household in the commune.
