(Baonghean.vn)- After two years, the initial 32 cows provided by the Golden Cow Bank to poor and near-poor households in two remote communes of Quy Hop have now increased to 76.

In September 2014, the People's Committee of Quy Hop district allocated 600 million VND from its budget to build a "Golden Cow Bank" in Nam Son and Bac Son communes. After investing 300 million VND in each commune, the People's Committee of Quy Hop district assigned the District Women's Union to manage and supervise Bac Son commune, and the District Farmers' Association to manage and supervise Nam Son commune.

The pair of golden oxen from the Investment Cow Bank were given to a family in Nam Son.

These two associations conducted surveys of poor and near-poor households that met the conditions for developing livestock farming, such as having barns, labor, and receiving training in breeding cattle. After surveying and selecting eligible households, the Women's Association and the Farmers' Association of the district purchased 32 breeding cows to distribute to 32 households. During the breeding process, the households received regular inspections and training on disease prevention from commune and district officials, resulting in the healthy development of the cattle herd.

Many households in Quy Hop have managed to preserve the genetic lineage of the native yellow cattle.

After two years, the mother cows were rotated for the second time, resulting in 76 calves. Thanks to this, many households have escaped poverty, have calves for breeding, have labor for plowing, and have a source of fertilizer for their fields.
