(Baonghean.vn) - As part of their visit and working trip to Nghe An, on July 20th, the World Bank delegation in Vietnam held a meeting with provincial leaders to discuss several programs and projects funded by the World Bank that are being implemented in the area.

Attending the working session, on the side of Nghe An province were: Mr. Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of Vinh City and Hung Nguyen district.along with representatives from several relevant departments, agencies, and units.

The World Bank delegation included Mr. Ousmane Dione, World Bank Country Director for Vietnam, and other members.

A report on the implementation status of investment projects funded by the World Bank (WB) in Nghe An province shows that: To date, the total ODA disbursed for the Vinh Urban Development Sub-project is 71.13 million USD, reaching 84% of the total project capital (84.5 million USD).

Of these, 9 sub-project packages have been completed; the remaining 8 packages are currently being expedited and are nearing completion.

In addition, the World Bank is currently funding the project "Coastal Resources for Sustainable Development in Nghe An Province," providing multi-sector support aimed at improving the efficiency of coastal resource management and exploitation, contributing to the sustainable development of coastal resources. The disbursed value of this project (excluding counterpart funding) from the beginning of the project to June 30, 2018, reached 90.2% of the total investment.

In addition, the project to build rural bridges and manage local road assets in Nghe An, funded by the World Bank, is currently progressing on schedule. The project includes a road component (restoration and improvement of local roads) and a bridge component (construction of rural bridges).

During the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong affirmed that the projects and programs funded by the World Bank in Nghe An have been effective, contributing to the improvement of infrastructure, environmental remediation, and flood control; serving as a driving force for the socio-economic development of the locality.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed his hope that the World Bank would continue to pay attention to and support Nghe An province for phase 2 of the two projects: "Improving environmental sanitation and urban infrastructure to adapt to climate change in Vinh City" and the coastal resources for sustainable development project.

The World Bank Country Director in Vietnam highly appreciated the efforts and determination of Nghe An province in implementing projects funded by the World Bank, especially the Vinh Urban Development Sub-project; and expressed the hope that Nghe An province would operate and develop these projects effectively and sustainably, creating conditions to attract investment and improve the quality of life for its people.

The World Bank Country Director in Vietnam recommended that Nghe An province work promptly with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to agree on the methods and procedures for implementing the projects of phase 2. The World Bank is committed to being a good partner and is ready to provide financial support for ongoing and upcoming projects in Nghe An province; it is also ready to provide technical support and consultation on the province's socio-economic development planning to create more appropriate development plans for the future.

Speaking at the meeting, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh thanked the World Bank Country Director in Vietnam for recognizing the province's efforts and the effectiveness of WB-funded projects in Nghe An province.

At the same time, it was clarified that the World Bank's selection of two ongoing and upcoming projects aligns with the province's development orientation. The Provincial Party Secretary affirmed that the funds provided by the World Bank to Nghe An in the future will be used appropriately and effectively in the province's socio-economic development.

Earlier, a delegation led by Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with representatives from the World Bank, visited the construction sites of three packages under construction that are nearing completion of the Vinh Urban Development Sub-project - Medium-Sized Cities Development Project, including: the Hung Tay - Vinh road construction package, the regulating lake construction package, and the project to upgrade and renovate the canals surrounding the Vinh Citadel.
