Prevent Trump from starting war with Iran?

Democratic Senator Tim Kaine said his proposed resolution to prevent President Trump from waging war with Iran could be moved forward as early as February 12 and a final Senate vote could take place this week.

Mr. Kaine's resolution requires President Trump to withdraw US troops from any military hostilities against Iran within 30 days if he does not receive congressional approval.

Four Republican senators (GOP) – Susan Collins, Mike Lee, Rand Paul and Todd Young – are expected to support Mr Kaine's resolution – allowing it to receive the 51 votes needed to pass.

Mr Kaine added that he could get “at least” 51 votes in support. However, he stressed that he would not name the remaining GOP senator who has declared his support.

Sen. Kaine's resolution will first need to be referred from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, then through other procedural steps, before the Senate debates and finally takes a final vote.

In early January 2020, with 224 votes in favor and 194 votes against, the House of Representatives passed a similar resolution to prevent future military action by President Trump against Iran. However, in this vote, there were some disagreements within the two parties. There were 3 Republican members who sided with the Democratic Party in favor of the resolution, while 8 Democratic members sided with the Republican Party in opposing the resolution./.
