Preventing Trump from starting a war with Iran?
Democrats want to discuss a resolution to prevent President Trump from launching a war with Iran as soon as possible so the Senate can vote on it this week.
Democratic Senator Tim Kaine said that the resolution he proposed to prevent President Trump from launching a war with Iran could be moved forward as early as February 12, and the final Senate vote could take place this week.

Kaine's resolution demands that President Trump withdraw U.S. troops from any military hostilities against Iran within 30 days without congressional approval.
Four Republican (GOP) senators—Susan Collins, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, and Todd Young—are expected to support Kaine's resolution, allowing it to receive the 51 votes needed to pass.
Kaine added that he could receive “at least” 51 votes of support. However, he stressed that he would not name the remaining GOP congressman who had declared his support for him.
Senator Kaine's resolution will first need to be sent from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, followed by other procedural steps, before the Senate debates and finally takes a vote.
In early January 2020, with 224 votes in favor and 194 against, the House of Representatives passed a similar resolution aimed at preventing future military action by President Trump against Iran. However, this vote saw some internal disagreements between the two parties. Three Republican members sided with the Democrats in favor of the resolution, while eight Democratic members sided with the Republicans in opposition.
