February 4, 1947:The Technical Research Department, the predecessor of the Weapons Institute under the General Department of Defense Industry, was established. The Weapons Institute is responsible for researching, designing, manufacturing, improving, and repairing weapons, equipment, and ammunition for the armed forces. The Institute also participates in ensuring technical support for defense production; ensuring measurement, testing, and quality assessment of weapons and technical equipment; providing investment consulting and appraisal of investment projects for the development of weapons and technical equipment.
