First day of mass E10 gasoline sales in Nghe An: Stable supply, people gradually getting used to it.
Along with the rest of the country, starting today, June 1st, gas stations in Nghe An province officially begin selling E10 bioethanol fuel on a large scale, as directed by the Government. Observations on the first day show that sales are stable, supply is assured, and people are quite open to the new fuel.
Abundant supply, people proactively adapt.
June 1st marked a new turning point for the petroleum market as E10 bioethanol became the main product in line with the government's green energy transition roadmap. In Nghe An province, gas stations simultaneously began selling E10 RON95 gasoline, gradually replacing traditional mineral gasoline.
Reporters observed on the morning of June 1st at Petrol Station No. 11 in Thanh Vinh Ward – one of the stations with many pumps and a high volume of customers in Vinh city – that sales were as bustling as usual. A long line of people driving cars and motorbikes came in to refuel, with no signs of hesitation or prolonged waiting times.
At the fuel pumps, E10 RON95 gasoline is priced at 24,130 VND/liter. Store staff continuously guide and advise people to ensure they understand the information about this new type of fuel.
Having just finished refueling his personal car, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, residing in Thanh Vinh ward, shared that he had previously heard many different opinions about biofuels and had some reservations. However, after researching information and receiving advice from staff, he decided to use E10.
"I think this is a well-thought-out policy. Today is the first time I've filled my car with E10, so I'll monitor the process further, but for now, I feel quite reassured because many cars are still using it normally," said Mr. Hoa.
Not only car users, but many motorbike riders also seem quite comfortable with the fuel switch. Ms. Tran Thi Mai, a customer filling up her car at the gas station, said she had known about the switch to E10 gasoline beforehand, so she wasn't too surprised on the first day of implementation. According to her, she has had experience with this type of fuel before, so she feels quite confident using it.
"My car has been using E10 gasoline since mid-May 2026, when gas stations started gradually switching. So far, I've found the car to be running normally, without any unusual symptoms, so I'm not too worried," Ms. Mai shared.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Dinh Chi Dung, representative of Petrol Station No. 11, said that on the first day of switching to selling E10 gasoline, the number of customers filling up at the station remained high, and sales were stable without major fluctuations. According to Mr. Dung, the station had actually prepared and conducted trial sales of E10 gasoline for about a month beforehand, so the transition went smoothly, and to date, no complaints or feedback have been received from customers. On average, the station sells approximately 600,000 - 650,000 liters of gasoline to the market each month.
Not only in Vinh city, but also in many other localities such as Hung Nguyen, Dien Chau… the fuel market remained stable on the first day of E10 implementation. All gas stations ensured sufficient supply to meet the transportation, production, and business needs of the people.
As a key petroleum supplier in the area, Petrolimex Nghe An had prepared its transition plan quite early. It is known that the unit completed the conversion to E10 gasoline on May 25th. To date, 100% of its gas stations have implemented the sale of E10 gasoline according to the government's roadmap and regulations. Currently, the entire system ensures a stable supply, so people do not need to worry about shortages or supply disruptions.
Understanding and using E10 gasoline correctly and effectively.
Along with the widespread rollout of E10 gasoline, many people are still concerned about the compatibility of the new fuel with their existing vehicles, especially older models.
According to the E10 biofuel usage guide recently issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, most cars and motorcycles currently in circulation in Vietnam can use this type of fuel. Many major car manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota, Ford, Mazda, Yamaha, etc., have recommended allowing the use of ethanol-containing fuel at appropriate levels.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that some vehicle types should be aware of when using E10 fuel, including vehicles manufactured before 2000, vehicles using older carburetors, vehicles that have not had their fuel systems serviced for a long time, or restored and collectible vehicles.
For these vehicles, users should periodically check the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines, carburetor, or fuel injectors before conversion to ensure stable operation.
The regulatory agency also explained that E10 has a lower calorific value than conventional gasoline by about 3.4%, therefore in some cases, there may be a feeling of reduced engine power or slightly increased fuel consumption. However, the difference is usually very small and difficult to notice under normal operating conditions.
In return, E10 has a more complete combustion rate, helping to reduce harmful HC and CO emissions by 20–30%, thereby contributing to reducing environmental pollution and moving towards the goal of developing clean energy.
Speaking to reporters, a representative from the Trade Management Department of the Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade stated that the transition to E10 fuel in the province has proceeded smoothly so far, with no unusual market or supply issues arising.
"We are continuing to closely monitor the market situation, coordinate fuel quality inspections, supervise distribution activities, and promptly receive feedback from the public to ensure consumer rights are protected during the transition," said Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep, Head of the Trade Management Department.
