The giant fish was caught at around 4:30 PM on January 26th in the Met beach area, Lang Khe commune, Con Cuong district.
"When we first went down, nobody thought it was a fish. The powerful thrashing scared everyone; we thought it was a monster. It took us more than 30 minutes to catch it. This is also the first time I've seen such a large and long catfish," Mr. C. recounted.
Explaining why such a huge catfish was "stranded" in such shallow water, people said: Due to the hydroelectric dam blocking the water flow, the fish did not have time to reach deeper water, causing it to become stranded.
The fish has now been butchered and sold at a cheap price (120,000 VND/kg) for everyone in the village to eat during Tet.

The catfish, also known as the "ghe" or "ghe," is one of the rare fish species in western Nghe An province. They typically live in flowing water, have long bodies, and few bones. The meat of the catfish is firm and delicious. The price of catfish sold in highland towns ranges from 500,000 to 800,000 VND per kilogram. The larger the fish, the higher its value.
