Nghe An: 72/73 livestock samples tested negative for Salbutamol

(Baonghean.vn) - Tests conducted by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on 72 out of 73 livestock samples showed that most were negative for Salbutamol, a banned substance in animal husbandry.

Salbutamol is a substance that stimulates the respiratory tract in livestock, helping them produce more lean meat than fat, and giving the meat a fresher, more appealing color after slaughter. However, it is banned from use in livestock farming due to the toxins it leaves for consumers.

In 2016 and the first seven months of 2017, the inspection team of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development collected samples for analysis of livestock and food processing products from 12 slaughterhouses in six districts: Yen Thanh, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Nam Dan, Do Luong, and Vinh City. The results showed that 72 out of 73 samples tested negative for Salbutamol.

Inspections of 20 establishments producing, trading, and using animal feed and veterinary drugs in Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, and Quynh Luu districts showed that all 20 samples tested negative for Salbutamol.

The Department also directed the Agriculture and Rural Development Departments of the districts to conduct inspections for the banned substance Salbutamol in the urine of slaughterhouse pigs; the results showed 30 out of 30 samples were negative. Inspections of E. coli levels in the blood and urine of pigs before slaughter (at slaughterhouses and farms) showed that 135 out of 135 samples were within the permissible limits. Inspections for the unusual disease in pigs showed 54 out of 54 samples were negative.
