Salbutamol is a substance that stimulates the respiratory tract of livestock, helping livestock produce more lean meat than fat. The color of the meat after slaughter is also brighter and more attractive to buyers. This is a banned substance in livestock farming because of the toxins left behind for meat consumers.

In 2016 and the first 7 months of 2017, the Inspection and Supervision Team of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development took samples for analysis of livestock products and food processing at 12 slaughterhouses in 6 districts: Yen Thanh, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Nam Dan, Do Luong and Vinh City. The results showed that 72/73 samples were negative for Salbutamol.

Checking 20 establishments producing, trading and using animal feed and veterinary medicine in Nghi Loc, Dien Chau and Quynh Luu districts, the results showed that 20/20 samples were negative for Salbutamol.

The Department also directed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of districts to organize testing for the banned substance Salbutamol in the urine of pigs at slaughterhouses, with 30/30 samples being negative. Testing for E.coli levels in the blood and urine of pigs before slaughter (at slaughterhouses and farms): 135/135 samples were within the allowable limit. Testing for strange diseases in pigs: 54/54 samples were negative./.
