Nghe An: Arrested gambling group taking advantage of funeral to organize dice shaking
The group often visits families whose relatives have just passed away, using the excuse of coming to the homeowner's house to offer condolences to gamble with large sums of money.
On November 11, 2025, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police announced that it was detaining 9 suspects for gambling by shaking dice.
Previously, through understanding the situation, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province Police discovered a group of subjects committing the crime of "Gambling" in Cua Lo Ward and Truong Vinh Ward with the participation of subjects with criminal records, sophisticated activities.
Notably, in the group, there is Hoang Dinh Son (born in 1974), residing in Truong Vinh ward (commonly known as Son "Chat" who has 5 previous convictions for the crimes of: Theft of property, Extortion of property, Robbery of property, Disturbing public order, Gambling and 1 previous conviction for illegal use of drugs).
It is worth mentioning that the gambling locations chosen by the subjects were families with recently deceased relatives. After the families had completed the burial procedures, on the basis of being acquainted with these families, the subjects used the excuse of coming to pay their condolences to organize gambling, not allowing strangers to participate.
The behavior of these subjects affects the security and order situation in the area. In the face of this situation, the Criminal Police Department has mobilized forces to effectively combat the above group of subjects.
On the evening of November 7, 2025, taking advantage of the time when a family in Truong Vinh ward had just finished organizing the funeral procedures for a relative, Hoang Dinh Son and his subjects came to burn incense and gamble by shaking the dice in a closed room at the homeowner's house. While gambling, 9 subjects were arrested by the Criminal Police Department. The seized evidence was more than 80 million VND in cash, 3 mobile phones and other evidence.
In addition to Hoang Dinh Son, 8 other subjects, including 7 subjects residing in Truong Vinh ward, were also arrested by the police, including: Nguyen Thi Kim Dung (born in 1973, with 2 previous convictions for the crimes of theft of property and harboring prostitution); Nguyen Thanh Dung (born in 1973, with 3 previous convictions for the crimes of intentional injury, gambling and harboring or consuming property obtained by others through crime); Vu Quang Khanh (born in 1978, with 2 previous convictions for gambling); Ngo Xuan Quyet (born in 1973, with 1 previous conviction for illegal possession of narcotics); Hoang Nghia Quynh (born in 1972); Nguyen Cong Lu (born in 1977); Nguyen Phuc Son (born in 1988) and Le Van Duan (born in 1972, residing in Dong Kinh commune, Ha Tinh province).
At the police station, the suspects admitted their crimes. The case is currently under further investigation.
