Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh, Deputy Head of the Livestock and Veterinary Department, stated: Forecasts indicate that after the heavy rains and floods from October 15th to 17th, pathogens from waste, animal carcasses, livestock farms, slaughterhouses, collection points, and pig transport vehicles will spread widely into the environment. Therefore, the disease will develop in a very complex manner and has the potential to spread widely, especially in low-lying, frequently flooded districts in the coming period.

To ensure environmental hygiene in livestock farming and limit the outbreak of African swine fever after floods, localities need to focus on disinfecting the environment after floods, following the principle of cleaning and disinfecting wherever necessary.

Currently, localities are carrying out cleaning and disinfection, but the amount of chemicals in reserve will not be sufficient. Therefore, the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine is submitting a request to the Provincial People's Committee for an additional 30 tons of chemicals to supply localities for large-scale concentrated disinfection.

Previously, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine had supplied localities with 80,000 tons of chemicals to support the prevention and control of African swine fever.

At the same time, local authorities are encouraging livestock farmers to buy lime powder to sprinkle for disinfection inside and outside pig farms.

In the province, as of mid-October, African swine fever had occurred in 335 communes across 21 districts, cities, and towns. A total of 77,460 pigs were culled, with a total weight of 3,845 tons.
