Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine said: It is forecasted that after the flood from October 15 to 17, pathogens from waste, animal carcasses, livestock facilities, slaughterhouses, collection facilities, pig transport vehicles... will spread widely into the environment through water. Therefore, the epidemic will develop very complicatedly and there is a risk of spreading widely, especially in low-lying districts that are often flooded in the coming time.

To ensure environmental hygiene in livestock farming and limit the outbreak of African swine fever after floods, localities need to focus on disinfecting the environment after floods with the motto of disinfecting where there is sanitation.

Currently, localities are implementing cleaning and disinfection, but the amount of chemicals in reserve will not be enough. Therefore, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine is submitting to the Provincial People's Committee for an additional 30 tons of chemicals to provide to localities to deploy concentrated disinfection on a large scale.

Previously, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine provided localities with 80,000 tons of chemicals to serve the prevention of African swine fever.

At the same time, localities mobilized farmers to buy lime powder to sprinkle disinfectant inside and outside pig farms.

In the province, as of mid-October, African swine fever had occurred in 335 communes of 21 districts, cities and towns. The total number of pigs that had to be destroyed was 77,460, with a total weight of 3,845 tons.
