Nghe An: Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August increased by 1.94% compared to the same period in 2024.

According to information from the Nghe An Provincial Statistics Office, the consumer price index (CPI) in August increased by 0.03% compared to the previous month, by 1.94% compared to the same period last year, and by 1.24% compared to December of the previous year.

The main reasons for the increase in the consumer price index are: In August 2025, Nghe An was affected by two typhoons that caused severe damage to the material and spiritual lives of the people; authorities tightened management of sand mining, construction demand increased, and many sand mines expired their mining licenses; the price of raw materials for some construction materials increased, leading to an increase in construction material prices; in addition, the outbreak of African swine fever is causing prices to rise.

Of the 11 main consumer goods and services groups, 5 groups saw price index increases compared to the previous month: Culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.35%; Housing, electricity, water and construction materials increased by 0.26%; Clothing, hats and footwear increased by 0.09%; Beverages and tobacco increased by 0.08%; Other goods and services increased by 0.02%; Education increased by 0.02%.

Three price index groups remained unchanged compared to the previous month: Household equipment and appliances; Postal and telecommunications services; and Medicines and medical services.

Two groups of indicators decreased compared to the previous month: Food and beverage services decreased by 0.06%; Transportation decreased by 0.08%.

On average, in the first eight months of 2025, the consumer price index increased by 1.94% compared to the same period of the previous year. Eight out of eleven commodity groups saw increases, including: Medicines and medical services (up 13.32%); Other goods and services (up 5.38%); Housing, electricity, water and construction materials (up 3.73%); Food and food services (up 2.96%); Clothing, hats and footwear (up 1.3%); Culture, entertainment and tourism (up 1.29%); Beverages and tobacco (up 0.92%); and Household equipment and appliances (up 0.75%).

Three out of eleven commodity groups saw a decrease: Transportation (down 5.73%), Education (down 0.86%), and Postal and Telecommunications (down 0.31%).

The gold price index in August 2025 decreased by 0.18% compared to the previous month, but increased by 46.29% year-on-year. The average for the first eight months of 2025 increased by 47.24% year-on-year. Domestic gold prices fluctuated in line with world gold prices.

The US dollar index rose 0.16% compared to the previous month and 3.16% year-on-year. The average for the first eight months of 2025 was a 2.61% year-on-year increase.

August 2025 marked the end of the Nghe An beach tourism season, resulting in a decrease in the number of visitors to cultural-historical and eco-tourism destinations compared to the previous month. Furthermore, the remnants of Typhoon No. 3 caused prolonged heavy rain and widespread flooding, impacting the daily lives of residents and affecting commercial activities, consumer demand for goods, entertainment, and tourism.

Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in August 2025 are estimated at VND 14,191.6 billion, a decrease of 0.05% compared to the previous month, but an increase of 18.18% compared to the same period last year. For the first eight months of 2025, total retail sales of goods and consumer services are estimated at VND 116,249 billion, an increase of 15.51% compared to the same period in 2024.
