Nghe An: Consumer price index in June 2020 increased sharply

According to data from the Nghe An Statistics Office, the consumer price index (CPI) in June 2020 increased by 0.73% over the previous month, decreased by 0.69% over December last year and increased by 2.77% over the same period last year.

Of the 11 groups of goods and services, 5 groups had price indexes that increased compared to the previous month: food and catering services increased by 0.60%; beverages and tobacco increased by 0.37%; transportation increased by 4.86%; culture, entertainment, and tourism increased by 0.33%; and other goods and services increased by 0.14%.

In addition, there were 3 groups of goods that decreased: Clothing, hats, and footwear decreased by 0.09%; Housing, electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials decreased by 0.53%; and household equipment and appliances decreased by 0.08%. There were 3 groups with stable prices: medicine and medical services, post and telecommunications, and education.

The reason for the CPI increase in June 2020 is that during the period, there were 4 adjustments to increase gasoline and oil prices;Food and beverage services increased by 0.60% compared to the previous month due to increased demand for eating out during the month with 2 holidays: International Children's Day (June 1) and Vietnamese Family Day (June 28). Social activities have returned to normal after the period of social distancing. Many schools have started summer vacation, so tourism demand has increased, and the tourism industry has entered the peak season. In addition, due to extremely hot weather, prices of beverages and cigarettes have increased compared to the previous month due to increased consumer demand.

In difficult economic conditions, many families tighten their spending, so the purchase of items such as clothing, shoes, hats and other equipment decreases, so the prices of this group of items tend to decrease slightly. In addition,Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, with the electricity support policy, many households have reduced their rent to support consumers, so housing, electricity and water prices have decreased.

Also according to statistics, on average in the first 6 months of the year, the consumer price index in Nghe An increased by 3.52% over the same period last year, with the strongest increase being in the food and catering services group, up 10.31%; beverages and tobacco, up 1.47%; clothing, hats and footwear, up 1.31%; household appliances and equipment, up 0.92%; medicine and medical services, up 2.74%; education, up 4.89%; culture, entertainment and tourism, up 3.30%; other goods and services, up 3.15%.

In addition, there are groups of goods that decreased: Housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials decreased by 0.16%; transportation decreased by 7.94%; post and telecommunications decreased by 0.08%.
